What to leave off our baby registry?

Man, we're getting close to our new baby arriving and sorting through the stuff that you're "supposed" to have on a baby registry? My question is this - what don't we need even though it's on a suggested baby registry list?

Congrats, BTW.

The Diaper Genie. I used mine for a week and gave up in favor of wrapping diapers in grocery bags and tossing them out the back door into the trash. (Grocery bags balled up in the bottom your diaper bag are also a lifesaver when visiting or on the road.) The long train of dirty DG diapers is gross, and I don't like the idea of storing them in the house. That said, the greenest alternative would have been cloth, but I didn't have it in me. That's my modern mom confession.

I always wonder what's the point of the microwave bottle sterilizer if you have a dishwasher. Maybe I'm missing something. They look cool, but with all the other gadgets (instant bottle warmers (that's what the microwave is for), bottle caddies, monitors,pumps...) and parts one has to keep up with, I just don't see the point. Knowing my luck, I poisoned my first one and am on my way to poisoning the upcoming one all because I didn't buy this one simple device.

The one thing no one includes is nighttime cotton moisturizing gloves. They're in the beauty section and are a lifesaver when trying to bathe a squirmy, slippery baby.

There are a TON of things that you don't "NEED!" Where do I even begin? What you DO need is diapers, diapers, diapers!! I say keep most of the things in the package with gift reciepts... return them for store credit and get DIAPERS!!

all you really need is an infant car seat so you can leave the hospital. Everything else you can pick up as needed. Meet your baby first and then decide what works for you. I know you'll need diapers on hand and some clothes, but wait and see if you really need that bouncy chair, or bassinet, etc. My wife and I had our first child early-real early- and didn't really finish getting all the stuff we thought we needed. As it turns out, we would have never used it. good luck!! its a blast..
